Modular Multilevel Converters for Large-Scale Grid-Connected Photovoltaic Systems: A Review

نویسندگان

چکیده

The use of photovoltaic (PV) systems as the energy source electrical distributed generators (DG) is gaining popularity, due to progress power electronics devices and technologies. Large-scale solar PV plants are becoming preferable solution meet fast growth demand, they can be installed in less than one year, compared around four years case conventional plants. Modular multilevel inverters (MMIs) best connect these large-scale medium-voltage (MV) grid, their numerous merits, such providing better quality, having higher efficiency, reliability, scalability. However, MMIs still progressing need some improvement before implemented safely industrial, medium, high voltage networks. main purpose this paper review present topologies when used applications. aims a comprehensive study various recent submodule circuits associated with MMI topologies. Maximum point tracking (MPPT) control schemes for will explored extensively. Then, different strategies presented give holistic overview submodules balancing techniques, ranges, capabilities under balanced unbalanced grid conditions. In addition, discuss future electricity

New multi-stage DCeDC converters for grid-connected photovoltaic systems

Renewable energy is high on international and national agendas. Currently, grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems are a popular technology to convert solar energy into electricity. Existing PV panels have a relatively low and varying output voltage so that the converter installed between the PVs and the grid should be equipped with high step-up and versatile control capabilities. In addition,...

Control of Modular Multilevel Converters for Grid Integration of Full-Scale Wind Energy Conversion Systems

Debnath, Suman Ph.D., Purdue University, May 2015. Control of Modular Multilevel Converters for Grid Integration of Full-scale Wind Energy Conversion Systems. Major Professors: Maryam Saeedifard and Steve D. Pekarek. The growing demand for wind power generation has pushed the capacity of wind turbines towards MW power levels. Higher capacity of the wind turbines necessitates operation of the ge...

Analysis and Design of Modular Multilevel Converters for Grid Connected Applications

This paper is a licentiate compilation-thesis that aims to bring clarity to the dimensioning aspects and limiting factors of modular multilevel converters. The dc-capacitor in each submodule is a driving factor for the size and weight of the converter. This means that it is important to distribute the stored energy evenly among all submodule capacitors. Typically, an increased switching frequen...

Modeling and Design of Modular Multilevel Converters for Grid Applications

This thesis aims to bring clarity to the dimensioning aspects and limiting factors of the modular multilevel converter (MMC). Special consideration is given to the dc capacitors in the submodules as they are a driving factor for the size and weight of the converter. It is found that if the capacitor voltages are allowed to increase by 10% the stored energy must be 21 kJ/MW in order to compensat...

Robust controller for interleaved DC-DC converters and buck inverter in Grid-Connected Photovoltaic Systems

The present work describes the analysis, modeling and control of an interleaved Boost converters and Buck power inverter used as a DC-DC and DC-AC power conditioning stage for grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems. To maximize the steady-state input-output energy transfer ratio a backstepping controller is designed to assure output unity power factor and a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT)...
